Newcastle United told they have a 'cracking' talent after first assist and Ronaldinho skill

Newcastle United prospect Elliot Anderson has quickly made an impression on loan at Bristol Rovers.

The talented attacker sealed a deadline-day switch to the League Two outfit to work under former Magpies midfielder Joey Barton.

Anderson's campaign to date has been hampered by injuries, and the 19-year-old did not make a senior appearance in black-and-white this term.

However, Eddie Howe kept the attacking midfielder involved in first-team training, with assistant manager Jason Tindall insisting the teenager had shown 'really good signs for the future'.

Barton was quick to praise Anderson too following his move, describing the Magpies' talent as feeling 'invincible' despite stepping out of his comfort zone.

The Scotland youth international made his Rovers' debut as a substitute away at Sutton United, and a 20-second clip of this display caught the attention of Newcastle fans on social media.

Anderson has since started the last three matches for Barton's side, and registered his first assist of the campaign in Tuesday night's home victory against Sutton United.

The attacking midfielder combined with his namesake Harry to open the scoring after just three minutes, and he twice came close to scoring himself in the 2-0 win.

The club's match report described Anderson as being at the 'heart' of an impressive performance, while Rovers' reporter Sam Frost described a moment of Ronaldinho-esque skill which summed up the encouraging display.

He wrote for Bristol Live: "Elliot Anderson summed the performance up with his head-spinning moves on the half turn to rapidly up the tempo.

"The Newcastle United loanee also produced an elastico – perhaps most famously performed by Ronaldinho in his pomp – to create a shooting chance.

"That moment alone captured the confidence that is flowing through a squad that was often bereft of belief earlier in the season. All the metrics are pointing up for Rovers."

Anderson took to social media to hail the 'great win' and a 'top performance' from his new team-mates, and his post was warmly received by supporters.

Here is how Rovers fans reacted to the latest display from the Newcastle loanee.

'Cracking footballer'

'Deserved a goal'

'Different gravy'

'Great performance'

'Only one Geordie Gashead'

'Well played'
