Dutch football expert Marcel van der Kraan has told Sky Sports that Sven Botman can replicate Virgil van Dijk’s heroics at Newcastle United. Confirmation of the deal is yet to be announced but the 22-year-old was pictured on Tyneside today ahead of his medical.
The Magpies will stump up around £32million for Botman - who won the Ligue 1 title with Lille last year. Toon chiefs are set to land their primary target after missing out on the Dutchman in January.
Van Dijk is the best defender in the Premier League, arriving in Liverpool for £75million in 2018. The Reds defender spent just three seasons in the Eredivisie before moving to Celtic nine years ago.
