Didier Hamann has claimed that Newcastle United must add to their attacking ranks if they want to challenge further up the Premier League table. Eddie Howe is keen on bringing another striker to St James’ Park this summer while a winger might also be on his transfer wishlist.
Nick Pope, Sven Botman and Matt Targett have already been signed in a concerted effort to shore up the defence. New recruits at the other end of the pitch will now be top of the agenda on Tyneside as the transfer window moves into its second month.
Hamann believes Moussa Diaby, who United have been quite heavily linked with already, would be the perfect addition in the wide areas. Speaking to Genting Casino, the former Toon midfielder claimed that getting the Frenchman through the door as well as a prolific goalscorer would signify great business.

“Defensively – Newcastle have been solid with their recruitment,” he said. “Moussa Diaby would've been a great signing for them because he's got plenty of pace, he can create a chance out of nothing and he's a very good finisher.
“Newcastle need to sign a winger with pace and they need someone who puts goals away, because they haven't got an out-and-out striker who scores goals and that's the position they need to look at strengthening.”
Whilst harsh on Callum Wilson claiming that United don’t have a goalscoring forward, a striker is certainly a priority for Howe. It wouldn’t necessarily be the case if there was a guarantee that the former Bournemouth frontman could stay fully fit for a prolonged period but such is the situation.
Hugo Ekitike has, of course, been intensely linked but the behaviour of his agent has seen that potential move hit the buffers. Sourcing an alternative will now be the main objective for those in the recruitment department on Tyneside as the 2022/23 Premier League season comes fully into focus.
