Newcastle United to wear traditional colours for Carabao Cup Final amid 'Saudi kit' fear

Newcastle United are set to wear the club's traditional black-and-white stripes for their Carabao Cup Final against Manchester United on February 26 amid fears they would wear their 'Saudi Arabian' away kit.

Toon fans, most of whom haven't seen the club win a domestic final in their lifetime, will be pleased to know that, according to The Times, Eddie Howe's side will line-up in their historic colours when their players take to the pitch next weekend.

The club's away strip for the season, the green-trimmed-and-white shirts with green shorts and green socks, caused controversy when it was unveiled at the start of the season due to its similarities with the Saudi Arabian national team's colours.

Following their takeover by the Saudi Public Investment Fund in October 2021, the club has seen their position sky-rocket up the Premier League table thanks to fantastic performances on the pitch and the shirt was seen as a way of strengthening the ties of the club to their new ownership.

Earlier on in the season, Newcastle wore the strip against their Carabao Cup Final opponents Manchester United when the two sides met at Old Trafford in a 0-0 draw in October, and they are yet to win in the kit this season.

That has since sparked many fears from fans that their first trip to Wembley since the turn of the century could see the club in their green-and-white shirts rather than the traditional black-and-white stripes the club is famous for.

Fortunately for everyone, it seems as though the club has chosen to wear their usual colours to adhere to their 'Magpies' nickname and hopefully bring the first major domestic trophy back to the St. James' Park cabinet since 1955.
