Aston Villa defender Diego Carlos is expected to miss the majority of the season after r upturing his Achilles tendon during his side's 2-1 win over Everton on Saturday.
Carlos was heavily linked with a move to Newcastle United in January but the Magpies were quoted a price of more than £60m by Sevilla for the defender. Newcastle opted not to move for the Brazilian again this summer as he joined Villa for a reported fee of £26m.
"I'm extremely worried about that situation. We're going to send him for an MRI scan but it doesn't look good.," Villa boss Steven Gerrard revealed after the game.

"It's around the ankle, Achilles area. He felt an awkward mechanism in there. You can see by the player and the man that he's not the type to go off easy.
"He looks concerned about it and the medical staff seem concerned and that's the reason why I'm worried about it."
After just two appearances for the Villains, Gerrard's worst fears have been realised with Carlos expected to be missing for much of the season. The player will require surgery and will then begin his rehabilitation programme.
The news has received a mixed reception but many Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to wish Carlos a speedy recovery.
@iamleebarry Shocking to see some people happy about Carlos getting injured! Never nice to see players injured. As a #NUFC fan who wanted Diego Carlos all I can say is have a fast recovery.
@ShowBig7 I am ashamed at some #NUFC fans who are happy with Diego Carlos' injury. He wanted to join us last winter even when we were competing for survival. It was us who didn't want him this summer. I don't know why the fan base is obsessed with him. Just pass or wish him a recovery.
@JeffMak1975 So sorry for Diego and Villa fans. Got to say I like the lad since we were linked to him in January. Awful injury not to be laughed at, hopefully he'll be back stronger and better than before.
@Kieran_Nufc21 Unfortunate for him and Villa as he's only just joined and got his dream move to the PL just to be ruled out for an entire season. Not an injury to be laughed at. Speed recovery to him.
@nufcbllcks Shocking injury, having done it myself I know what he has in front of him. Positive thing is they heal well and I'm sure he will be back 100%. Best of luck with the recovery.
@KeithFenwick10 Generally was looking forward to see how he would perform after our interest in Jan. Hopefully he's back after Christmas.
@CraigCottingha3 All the best on your recovery Diego!
