Newcastle United supporters react to safe standing pilot and what it could mean for St. James' Park

Newcastle United supporters have reacted on social media to the results of a safe standing pilot scheme that has been trialled this season in the Premier League. Four clubs have had rail seating installed, and although Newcastle were not one of them, fans have made their opinions clear that they would like to see them installed at St. James' Park.

St. James' Park became an all-seater ground in the 1995/96 season, when Newcastle went toe-to-toe with Manchester United for the Premier League title. With supporters now rejuvenated following the takeover in October 2021, many feel that similar times may well be on the horizon, with the new ownership looking to make several visual changes to the club.

Many fans on Twitter voiced their support for the installation of safe standing at St. James' Park, with one saying: "Yes. Absolutely." and other adding: "Yes. I think they should introduce it to the pitch side seats at present and move them closer to the pitch - that way it would also increase capacity."
