Newcastle United supporters react to improved offer for 'game-changer' James Maddison

Newcastle United supporters are overwhelmingly positive about the prospect of James Maddison heading to Newcastle United. ChronicleLive understands a £50million bid has been lodged to try and lure the midfielder away from Leicester City.

A previous offer - believed to be just shy of £40million - was swiftly rejected by the Foxes over the weekend. Unsurprisingly, Toon supporters are ecstatic at the prospect of signing another England international.

Any move for Maddison would shatter the £40million transfer record shelled out to sign Joelinton in 2019. Newcastle’s Saudi-backed ownership would have snatched a star player from a direct Premier League rival - a statement of intent ahead of the new campaign.

Fans were quick to express their excitement on social media following the news. Twitter was awash with optimism over the news that Maddison could be joining the Tyneside revolution.

@CJA410: If we get this done and a striker to keep Wilson on his toes we have a real chance of top 8 imo

@Cleverdics: £50 million for a player with 30 goal contributions across all competitions last season? Absolute bargain. Top class signing

@Mitcho1992: Game changer signing imo. Really makes a statement. He is an excellent player, weakens a rival, and will raise the level of the rest of the team. Makes it easier to sell the vision for the next transfers to come in.

@NUFC_Index: I'd be delighted! Have reservations about where he'll play but 100% trust Eddie and the team, and cannot question the quality he would bring! #NUFC

@Aidan_head: Signing James Maddison would be a huge statement of intent for us and would attract a lot of players of similar magnitude

@DunilB: A quality addition. Offers plenty in terms of set pieces, goals outside the box.

@Gorskino10: From not even being able to get Hamza Choudhury on loan to taking arguably one of their best players shows a shift in how far we've come and sadly an underlying issue brewing at Leicester

@Blake82350032: Huge statement if we get Maddison in the door. Perfect signing for Newcastle with his proven premier league class. He’s only 25. I believe he will only get better. HWTL

@MaxFiction13: Newcastle looking to fill the void in the team of the attacking midfielder who can unlock a defence and also score, consistently, from outside the box and free kicks is what makes me love the building job we are doing. Maddison could play for England and he’s coming to the toon!

@Alexjeeves86: Fantastic. Would be the statement signing the club needs. That said, £45-50m in todays market is very cheap for a player of his quality. I think it would take a far greater offer for Leicester to even entertain letting him leave a week before season starts

@timclear77: Very exciting signing if we can pull it out the bag. Statement of intent and shows we can compete for top level players - how times have changed from a season ago!

@RobIrvine14: Maddison to me is the signing that signifies we are a bigger prospect than we were. It is the one I was saying pre takeover would push us on to the next level, was told there was no chance someone like him would come to us within the first year.

@carlflan88: Seems to be in the Howe/Ashworth mould of young and driven players who want Champions League football and have massive ambitions. If we can pull it off it adds some real quality to the attack

@LeeDForster: If we can add Maddison to Bruno and Sven, it shows other potential targets that high calibre players are buying into the project that is being sold to them. Huge statement.

@JoeNormDonnison: I think a midfield 3 of big Joe, Bruno, and Maddison is a mouth-watering prospect. Will be interesting to see if that's how he would fit into our current set up or if Howe has other plans. Either way, a solid addition.
