Newcastle United supporters name shock omission and back Allan Saint-Maximin return

ChronicleLive readers believe Dan Burn should be dropped from Eddie Howe’s starting line-up today. The Blyth-born defender has started all but one of Newcastle United’s league games this season, with talk of a potential England call-up in the recent international break.

Since arriving from Brighton in January, Burn - released by the Magpies as a schoolboy - has been a stalwart in defence. However, supporters have made him the victim of the Sven Botman and Matt Targett conundrum in their chosen line-up.

The 30-year-old deputised at left-back last week as Targett picked up a knock before the game. Summer signing Botman is Burn’s natural competitor as a left-sided centre-back but looked rock solid against Fulham last weekend.

Choosing the defence will prove the most testing dilemma for Howe ahead of the Brighton clash. Supporters have also backed Joelinton and Allan Saint-Maximin to return following their recent injuries.

Howe confirmed that the latter - who has not featured since his stunning last-minute equaliser against Wolverhampton Wanderers in August - has “a chance” of starting today.

“He's (Saint-Maximin) doing ok and trained well this week,” the manager told ChronicleLive. “We're pleased with him and he's making good process. (There is a) chance he could be in the squad.”
