Newcastle United fans have called for midfielder Jacob Murphy to receive a 'lifetime contract' after he waved off Southampton defender Duje Caleta-Car following his sending off in their Carabao Cup semi-final first leg.
The Magpies would need the introduction of club-record signing Alexander Isak to finally break the deadlock following numerous near-chances throughout both halves but the Swedish international set up Joelinton to fire home from inside six yards in the 73rd minute.
But just a minute later, it appeared as though the Saints had equalised through Adam Armstrong but his goal would eventually be ruled out by VAR after it was shown to have hit his arm before crossing the line.

Despite having a slim lead, Eddie Howe's side continued to push forward when Allan Saint-Maximin was tripped by Caleta-Car, who was given a second yellow card and an early exit - at which point Murphy waved at him to show him off the pitch.
Many took to social media to discuss the incident, with Newcastle fans finding it absolutely hilarious while Southampton fans didn't take as kindly to the gesture...
