Newcastle United fans are torn over the announcement to sell approximately 1,000 season tickets next Tuesday. In a move that was never going to please everybody, supporters who have purchased a season ticket, matchday ticket or membership since July 1, 2019, will be eligible for the upcoming release.
An update on the club website cited “an unprecedented demand” for next season forced Toon chiefs to devise a fair plan after consulting the NUFC Trust. Premier League rules insist 5% of tickets must be left for match days, with an allocation also taken up by away supporters.
Season tickets go on sale at 10am on Tuesday and can only be bought online at nufc.co.uk. As always, debate has sparked over how the tickets will be distributed ahead of the Magpies’ most exciting campaign for a generation.
The majority of fans acknowledged the plan as a “fair way” to resolve the issue to ChronicleLive.
Rob27363: I was unable to purchase a season ticket as I didn't meet the criteria. That's a fair way of doing this even though I have missed out. So good luck to the fans who have gone through some of the worst seasons in our history. Good luck to the fans who purchased the occasional tickets as per the requirement of the previous clubs cut off dates. You all deserve to be at the front of the line
1Flyingmag: It is what it is. Whatever opinion is said there will always be a few that disagree. Owners are in a no win situation. I'd love one of the tickets but I'm equally as happy that Ashley is no longer part of the club.
Downlo: The club can’t win with this to be honest. Personally I’m a little disappointed as I do qualify but would like to be able to try and get a ticket for me and my 7 year old lad but I can only try and get one. How are younger supporters going to be able to go to games who need to go with a man adult?
However, more pessimistic supporters labelled the decision to only permit one season ticket per person as “ridiculous” and highlighted those who relinquished their tickets before the July 2019 deadline.
BD100: It was impossible to get this right for everyone. Only answer is a huge stadium that won’t suit everyone either. Lose lose situation
MarkY: Why only one? I’d need an adult and a junior to take my son. Seems ridiculous.
MattBell: Remember the people that made that sacrifice and the many more years it took contributed to that change coming in the first place!
