Eddie Howe's decision to make widespread changes to Newcastle United's starting XI against Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup backfired.
The Magpies were once again dumped out of the competition in the third round, this time falling 2-1 to Wednesday at Hillsborough on Saturday night.
A Josh Windass brace was enough to see Darren Moore's side over the line against what was a heavily rotated Newcastle line-up.

With the midweek Carabao Cup quarterfinal coming up against Leicester, Howe opted to give a number of back-ups a start in the FA Cup. Martin Dubravka, Javier Manquillo, Jamaal Lascelles, Jamal Lewis, Elliot Anderson and Matt Ritchie were all handed starts, while Alexander Isak returned to the Newcastle starting XI for the first time since his injury.
Both Isak and Anderson were guilty of missing chances that would have put Newcastle firmly in control of the game, with Wednesday keeper Cameron Dawson producing a number of impressive saves.
At 2-0 down following Windass' brace, Newcastle were chasing the game, forcing them to bring on Chris Wood, Kieran Trippier, Joe Willock, Miguel Almiron and Bruno Guimaraes, who managed to bag a goal back for the Magpies to make it 2-1.
But in the end, the rotated XI did not fare well against the Owls in the eyes of Newcastle supporters.
In our fan player ratings, only Trippier, Guimaraes, Joelinton and Sven Botman scored over 6, with the former leading the way off the bench with a score of 6.9.
Despite his missed chances, Alexander Isak did look promising given his long layoff but was ultimately only given a rating of 5.9 by Newcastle fans.
Manquillo, Dubravka, Almiron, Willock and Ritchie were all given scores just below six, with ratings of 5.7, 5.4, 5.4, 5.3 and 5.1 respectively.
And six Newcastle players were given scores of below five by Toon Army supporters. Sean Longstaff and Anderson were scored at 4.7 and 4.6 while club captain Lascelles was given a rating of 4.1 for his disappointing showing.
Newcastle fans were not impressed either by Jacob Murphy and Lewis, who scored 3.7 and 3.6 respectively.
However, the lowest score of the round from Newcastle fans was given to striker Wood, who missed a golden opportunity to level proceedings for the Magpies in the second half. Having been playing in by Joelinton after some good work by the Brazilian, Wood found himself one on one with Dawson, only to blaze his strike well over the bar.
