ChronicleLive readers want Eddie Howe to give Anthony Gordon his full Newcastle United debut this evening. So far, the 21-year-old has featured twice from the substitutes’ bench.
Howe has bedded most of his marquee signings in carefully - ignoring pleas from supporters. Allowing Bruno Guimaraes and Sven Botman to find their feet has paid dividends, with both players contributing enormously since their big-money moves.
Alexander Isak’s patient introduction to Tyneside life was forced due to several injury setbacks but he is now leading the line in black-and-white stripes. However, a midfield crisis may not afford Gordon the same luxury…

Guimaraes’ suspension and Joe Willock’s injury means Newcastle only have two fully-fit midfielders available to face Liverpool. Offloading Jonjo Shelvey was a gamble and, just two weeks after his exit, the decision has already backfired.
Unsurprisingly, Sean Longstaff and Joelinton, as the only options, were chosen by readers to start. However, a surprising choice to start Gordon on the right flank would revamp Howe’s side.
That position has been filled by Miguel Almiron - and to great effect - this season. The Paraguayan is the Magpies’ top goalscorer with 10, bagging more Premier League strikes than his previous three-and-a-half years at the club.
Almiron ended a nine-game run with scoring at Bournemouth last week but supporters have named him in the number 10 role. The 29-year-old previously played there under Steve Bruce and reverting to the role could be an option.
On the opposite wing, ChronicleLive readers have kept faith in Allan Saint-Maximin after his energetic display on the south coast. Despite Callum Wilson possibly being fit to start, Isak was chosen to lead the line.
In defence, the trusted back five of Nick Pope, Kieran Trippier, Fabian Schar, Sven Botman and Dan Burn all featured. This is how supporters voted when asked to name their Toon starting line-up to face Liverpool.
ChronicleLive readers’ XI
Pope; Trippier, Schar, Botman, Burn; Longstaff, Joelinton, Almiron; Gordon, Saint-Maximin, Isak
