Newcastle United's Peruvian prospect Rodrigo Vilca has left the club on loan. The 22-year-old has made the switch to Universitario de Deportes.
Vilca spent time on loan at Doncaster Rovers this season before leaving the League One side after just 10 games and one goal. His performances in South America will now be assessed by United and loan manager Shola Ameobi.
But he still may have a future on Tyneside with two years left to run of his current deal. Vilca has spent some time training with the first-team under Eddie Howe yet it has been decided to let him go back to his homeland to get some more senior experience.
Vilca's deal was confirmed by Peruvian journalists with the midfielder posing with the Universitario de Deportes shirt on social media. Newcastle paid £225,000 for his services in the summer of 2020 but he is yet to make a senior appearance.
