Newcastle United's Elliot Anderson picks up further awards as Bristol Rovers loan comes to an end

On-loan Newcastle United youngster Elliot Anderson has picked up two more awards at the end of his time at Bristol Rovers. Having already won a goal of the month award in March for his brilliant individual effort against Harrogate Town, Anderson has been awarded both the EFL Young Player of the Month, and League Two Player of the Month, both for April.

Anderson managed three goals and two assists in April, and has attracted plenty of praise, including from Sky Sports pundit, Don Goodman, who called him "one of the most exciting young players" in England. He also scored the crucial seventh goal against Scunthorpe United that secured Rovers' promotion at the expense of Northampton Town.

Goodman said that: “It almost needs to be pointed out that the criteria for this award is judged solely on Anderson’s performances in April, before the frankly ridiculous performance he turned in on the dramatic final day, adding two assists and a goal to the three goals and two assists he registered in April.

“He heads back to Newcastle United with a reputation as one of the most exciting young players in the country, and understandably gaining a huge amount of interest from across the footballing pyramid.”

He is a talent that Newcastle will be looking to keep hold of, despite having increased financial power at their disposal. Under former Magpies midfielder Joey Barton, he has certainly proven his ability. Despite being one of the favourites for promotion at the start of the campaign, the Gas were languishing in the bottom half of League Two when Anderson arrived, but then shot up the table as he began to stamp his influence.

He will therefore be very much in Eddie Howe's plans going into next season, as Newcastle look to build for the future, if he can maintain this fine form.
