Newcastle United's Dominik Szoboszlai transfer stance as Premier League clubs circle

Newcastle United remain unsure over a deal for RB Leipzig's Dominik Szoboszlai at the midfielder's current transfer price point. The Hungarian captain's €70m (£60m) release clause has caught the eye of multiple Premier League suitors but may prove to be too rich for the Magpies this summer.

Newcastle will try to bargain with RB Leipzig as they seek to secure their first summer signing but with the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool sniffing around, it may be a deal this miss out on. Eddie Howe previously revealed he wanted 'elite' players brought to Tyneside and Szoboszlai certainly fits that bill.

RB Leipzig are resigned to losing the player this summer and have already began their damage limitation by closing in on moves for Lens striker Loïs Openda and Hoffenheim midfielder Christoph Baumgartner. The German club have also persuaded highly-rated Spaniard Dani Olmo to sign a new and improved contract.

Szoboszlai is keen on a move away and has repeatedly refused to commit his future to Leipzig beyond the summer window. Speaking last month, the 22-year-old admitted he may harbour future regrets should he choose not to explore his options.

"If I can now take a step towards the five or six best clubs in Europe, should I say no to this challenge? I've never been like that," Szoboszlai told Index.hu. "I am in a very good position because I play for a fantastic club. But I don't want to look back on my career in fifteen years as if I didn't make the most of it.

"My whole career so far has been about building and getting to the next level. You can fall from the heights and it's rare that you get one chance at the highest level of football, let alone two. All options have to be considered."

Newcastle have cast their net far and wide as they hunt for new additions. The north east outfit continue to be linked with a move for James Maddison, while a deal has been struck for Gambia international Yankuba Minteh with his Danish club Odense.

Despite the financial might of Newcastle's majority owners, there is not an endless pot of money available this summer. Howe wants to stick to Financial Fair Play regulations and a deal of £60m would likely take a significant chunk of the current transfer budget.
