Newcastle United's Austria squad in full as four miss out and youngsters get chance to impress

Newcastle United have arrived in Austria as they prepare for a week-long training camp as they prepare for the Premier League opener with Nottingham Forest in less than a month's time. Eddie Howe wasted no time on the trip as he and assistant Jason Tindall led a training session on Monday afternoon.

Four goalkeepers have flown out as Howe takes a look at Martin Dubravka, Nick Pope, Karl Darlow and Mark Gillespie. 12 defenders have also made the journey with Jamaal Lascelles, Sven Botman, Dan Burn, Paul Dummett, Fabian Schar, Kieran Trippier, Matt Targett, Federico Fernandez, Jamal Lewis, Kell Watts, Emil Krafth and Matt Ritchie all included.

Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton, Joe Willock, Jonjo Shelvey, Matty Longstaff, Sean Longstaff, Elliot Anderson, Miguel Almiron, Ryan Fraser and Jacob Murphy are the midfielders involved. While Callum Wilson, Chris Wood and Allan Saint-Maximin represent the forwards.

However, a few first-team stars will miss out on the trip. Javier Manquillo has been absent from first-team training since the squad returned earlier this month and is currently in his native Spain receiving treatment for a recent injury. Meanwhile, Dwight Gayle, Ciaran Clark and Jeff Hendrick have all stayed behind as they edge closer to leaving the Magpies.

Matty Longstaff is another who has been tipped to leave this summer but has been included on trip after playing half of the win over Gateshead on Saturday. Kell Watts and Elliot Anderson will hope to use the camp to showcase their talents in the first-team.

Howe's side will face 1860 Munich on July 15th at the SaalfeldenArena Burgerau, before taking on Mainz 05 on July 18th at the Kufstein Arena. But it is the former venue that fans will look forward to visiting as they watch Newcastle and their new summer signings in action.

Plonked in the middle of the picturesque Austrian town of Saalfelden, the 1,500 capacity arena boasts some of the best views in world football. Situated in the Berchtesgaden Alps, the Untersberg mountains can be seen in the background as the football is unfolding on the pitch.

"Austria will be an important time for us," Howe told NUFC TV. "We've got a lot of work to cram in in a short period of time. Hopefully the lads will enjoy that week, come back, and we'll be that much further forward then in our preparations."
