Newcastle United release Sandro Tonali picture fans have been waiting for

Newcastle United have released the first images of Sandro Tonali in a black and white shirt after he arrived on Tyneside today.

The Italy international was whisked in by a private plane before getting official photographs at the club as well as meeting officials. He was then spotted around the city as he was shown around for the first time.

Eager fans waited outside St James' Park to catch a glimpse of Newcastle's newest signing but were left disappointed. However, a few managed to catch him out and about around the north east.

Tonali is set to return to Italy and will have some time off after playing at the European Championships with the Italy Under-21 side in Romania. Both head of recruitment Steve Nickson and sporting director Dan Ashworth were on hand to see the deal over the line last week in Milan.

Newcastle begin pre-season training next week but club staff are starting to re-emerge after their summer break. They first undergo testing before the hard yards begin and the first friendly takes place away to Gateshead a week on Saturday.

It remains to be seen whether former Brescia star Tonali appears at the International Stadium or the second friendly away to Glasgow Rangers. But the defensive midfielder is will definitely be on the club's US tour when the Magpies take on Aston Villa in Philadelphia, Chelsea in Atlanta and Brighton & Hove Albion in New Jersey.

Eddie Howe will hope to have more new faces through the door sooner rather than later.
