Everton are expected to play hardball if Newcastle United go knocking for England's Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
The Toffees do not want to part with the 25-year-old as they find themselves in a bitter scrap against relegation with boardroom trouble unfolding around them at Goodison Park. The Magpies have had a longstanding interest in the Sheffield-born goalscorer who has struggled for goals this season.
But despite talk of a £35million price tag, Chronicle Live understands it could even take cash and a possible player swap to tempt the Toffees. However, with fringe players like Ryan Fraser and Javier Manquillo of no interest Newcastle would have work to do if they decide to go for the former Sheff United star.

Calvert-Lewin is also just coming back to full fitness after a knee injury kept him sidelined at the start of the season. And ideally Eddie Howe wants a player who is ready to hit the ground running.
Jonjo Shelvey Turkey talk
Reports in Turkey have suggested that Besiktas are interested in signing Jonjo Shelvey in the winter window. But Shelvey is getting close to a return after a calf injury kept him out of the Premier League's restart after the World Cup.
There's no doubt there is a big interest in taking Premier League stars to the Turkish Super Lig with Besiktas signing Dele Alli last year. But with Besikitas behind their big rivals Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe in the table, Alli is experiencing a tough time.
Whether Besiktas fork out the money for Shelvey in terms of a fee and wages remains to be seen. And in any case, the Turkish transfer window is open until February 8 which would give them more time to do a deal.
As things stand, Shelvey has been making good progress with his rehab at United despite the headlines in the Turkish media.
Chris Wood obligation explained
Chris Wood signed on loan to Nottingham Forest on Friday but the deal could become permanent and earn Newcastle a fee at the end of the season. The price would be £15million and is dependent on Forest staying up.
Howe did not expect to lose Wood but said yesterday: "It was a difficult decision because you have to take into account the player and his wishes but, also, I think it's a very good deal, financially, for the football club."
