Here are your Newcastle United evening headlines on Friday, March 11.
Eddie Howe wins manager of the month award
After a run of form which has seen Newcastle United leave worries about relegation behind them, Eddie Howe has been named the Premier League's manager of the month for February.
The Magpies went unbeaten for the month, winning three games and drawing one. There were home victories over Aston Villa and Everton, as well as a win over Brentford in London and a 1-1 draw at West Ham. Importantly, Newcastle' s defensive issues appear to have been fixed as they conceded only twice across the four games.
Bruno Guimaraes named in Brazil squad
Newcastle's £40million midfielder Bruno Guimaraes made his first start for the club in the win over Southampton on Thursday night and the Brazilian bagged the winning goal on the night as the game ended 2-1 to the Magpies.
Guimaraes had another thing to celebrate this morning as he was called up to Brazil's national team for the upcoming international break later this month.
Howe has drip fed the club's January signing into the team since his arrival in the Premier League and he will hope to rack up a few more starts ahead of jetting off to represent his country.
First goal for Newcastle 'meant a lot' to Chris Wood
Results have been on the up for Newcastle since January but £25million man Chris Wood had been unable to contribute any goals until last night, when he opened his account for the club with a header.
It appears to have been something that was weighing on the New Zealand international, as after the game, the club's social media showed Newcastle's players cheering Wood as he entered the changing room. Meanwhile, Eddie Howe stated that the goal had 'meant a lot' to Wood.
