McAvennie makes Guimaraes comparison
Former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie has suggested that Newcastle United may have found their new Tino Asprilla in Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes. The former Lyon man made his full Magpies debut against Southampton on Thursday night and he actually managed to find the winner, expertly finishing Dan Burn's cross.
Although Guimaraes has found regular minutes hard to come by since his £33million move in January, it seems as though he has settled in well and is enjoying his time on Tyneside. Nevertheless, McAvennie believes that he could become their new Asprilla.
"A Brazilian doing stuff like that, and when he’s at St. James’ Park, it doesn’t get much better than that," McAvennie told Football Insider. "The skills are great. He will be doing it in front of a crowd that love all that, other crowds don’t like it.
"At St. James’ Park players will try stuff and they will love it. Even if it doesn’t come off because they are trying it, it’s great. If you get a Brazilian player in all that with the samba style it will be great. The last player they had like that from around there, he wasn’t Brazilian but Colombian, Tino Asprilla. Everyone loved him."

Howe on Abramovich sanction
Eddie Howe says Newcastle United's task at Chelsea has not been made any easier - despite the Blues finding themselves in a political crisis. UK government sanctions have hit the club hard after they were imposed on Russian owner Roman Abramovich.
Abramovich's assets have been frozen and the sale of the club has been thrown into total disarray. Chelsea have permission to play on but they can't buy players or sell any tickets moving forward.
When asked if this will affect the outcome of the fixture at Stamford Bridge, Howe said: "I can only answer in terms of the football, and I don’t think it will have any bearing on Chelsea and how they play. For us, it can’t change our preparation in any way.
"I’ve been watching Chelsea historically, and I’ll be trying to build a game plan to go there and win. I don’t expect anything on the pitch to be any different really.
"In terms of the wider impact, it’s difficult to know. Any comment I give on that would be a guess, so it’s pointless me doing that. I’ll not really get into that."
