Newcastle United news: Allan Saint-Maximin injury update and Christian Eriksen in line to return

Your Newcastle United evening headlines for Friday, February 25.

‘Late call’ on Maxi

Eddie Howe will leave it late to decide whether Allan Saint-Maximin will feature against Brentford.

The Magpies’ maverick missed last week’s 1-1 draw against West Ham following a calf injury sustained in the win against Aston Villa.

Howe refused to rule the winger out ahead of the trip to West London.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, he said: "Saint-Maximin, we are going to make a late call on.

"He has been away getting intensive treatment.

"We said when he suffered the injury that it would not be long-term so we are keeping our fingers crossed on him.”

Antonio hails ‘outstanding’ Joelinton

West Ham striker Antonio is stunned by the transformation of Joelinton under Eddie Howe.

Newcastle’s £40million record signing has been converted into a midfielder this season and, against all odds, a drastic change in form means he is now regarded as a cult hero by Toon supporters.

Antonio - who co-hosts a podcast alongside Magpies number nine Callum Wilson - admits to feeling ‘shocked’ by how good Joelinton has become.

Eriksen comeback against the Toon

Christian Eriksen will make a fairytale return to football against Newcastle this weekend.

The world watched on in shock eight months ago when the Denmark midfielder collapsed during their Euro 2020 defeat to Finland.

Emergency services revived the 30-year-old on the pitch and he has been fitted with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator, allowing him to continue his successful playing career.

Brentford signed Eriksen on a free transfer last month and manager Thomas Frank confirmed his availability for the clash against Newcastle this weekend.
