Newcastle United, Manchester United and the Premier League title claim that will shock fans

Newcastle United have been backed to win a Premier League title before Manchester United by talkSPORT pundit Jason Cundy.

Eddie Howe's side have registered three straight victories to move themselves four points clear of the relegation zone with a game in hand on Norwich City.

The Magpies' immediate priority remains securing Premier League survival, and the head coach has regularly emphasised the need for his team to take it one match at a time.

Newcastle would become the first top-flight side to avoid relegation after failing to win any of their first 14 matches.

The new owners have not been shy in outlining their long-term ambitions at St James' Park, with a recent job advert outlining the ambition to 'top the Premier League' and become a 'global force'.

The subject of Newcastle lifting their first top-division title since 1927 was discussed on talkSPORT on Monday by former Chelsea and Tottenham defender Cundy and presenter Andy Goldstein.

Manchester United have won 13 Premier League titles but have not not lifted the title since 2013, and are in the midst of another rebuild with interim boss Ralf Rangnick at the helm.

Cundy was asked which club is more likely to become top-flight champions in the near future, and the pundit believes the success at Chelsea and Manchester City points to the Magpies.

He told talkSPORT: "I'd probably go Newcastle. I think I would.

"Look what [Manchester] City have done with their millions and how they've spent it, what Chelsea have done with their millions and how they've spent it.

"Both of those clubs, they are not in it to make money. Chelsea and Man City's model is about glory, that's what it's about. They're not worried about the pound notes.

"Manchester United right now, their priorities are about the pound notes."
