Newcastle United looking for aspiring football commentators to join matchday team

A rare opportunity has come up for aspiring football commentators to provide in-stadium commentary for visually impaired supporters at Newcastle United home matches.

The role involves providing match commentary for supporters who attend games and have visual impairments, on behalf of Alan March Sport (AMS), a company that supplies commentary teams for Premier League clubs Leicester City, Wolves, Nottingham Forest and Southampton.

The club posted on Twitter: "NUFC are looking for people to join the in-stadium access commentary service for visually impaired supporters which is being introduced at St. James' Park."

AMS says the opportunity is perfect for anybody who is looking into developing a media career.

"Have you ever fancied yourself as a football commentator? Interested in a career in media? Alan March Sport is looking for people to join the new in-stadium access Commentary service offered at St James' Park," the club's advert reads.

"If you've always wanted to learn about, and experience being a football commentator, then we have a training day at St James' Park on August 21, 2022. So don't let this opportunity pass you by."

Applicants must be able to commit to covering roughly 75% of Newcastle United home matches, including cup games and pre-season fixtures. They are required to be able to carry 8kg of equipment and need to live within 90 minutes travel of St James' Park.

Applicants must be available for the training day on Sunday August 21, between 9.30am and 5.30pm. Newcastle play Manchester City at St James' Park on the same day, with kick-off at 4.30pm.

Those interested should email info@alanmarchsport.com by 11.59 pm on August 15 with the following information to apply:

  • Full name
  • Age
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • 80-100 words on why you think you’d be a great commentator covering Newcastle United matches

The closing date for applications is 11.59pm on August 15th, 2022. The training day is free of charge. You do not need to be a Newcastle fan to apply. Head to https://www.nufc.co.uk/club/jobs/ to view the job advert.
