Alan Shearer has weighed in with his view on the handball law in response to West Ham’s controversial opening goal against Bournemouth on Monday.
The Hammers won 2-0 at the London Stadium to climb into the top half of the Premier League courtesy of goals from Kurt Zouma and Said Benrahma.
But it was a handball in the build-up to Zouma’s opener on the cusp of half-time that has divided opinion.
Thilo Kehrer clearly flicked the ball towards goal with his arm in the build-up, but Zouma’s header was still allowed to stand after the incident was reviewed by VAR.

Bournemouth interim boss Gary O’Neil was booked for his protests at half-time and Shearer took to social media to vent his frustrations.
The Newcastle United legend wrote on Twitter: “The handball law is all over the place, it’s an utter mess.”
David Coote also initially overlooked a handball from Jordan Zemura inside the penalty area in the 90th minute. The referee was recommended to review the incident on the pitchside monitor and changed his on-field decision to point to the spot.
Benrahma converted the resulting spot-kick to register a third consecutive home league victory for the Hammers, while the Cherries suffered back-to-back defeats under O’Neil for the first time.
