Newcastle United are mulling over the possibility of bringing Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips to the club on loan next season, according to reports.
Phillips joined City last summer from Leeds United in a deal worth up to £45m. The 27-year-old England international won the Treble in his first season at the Etihad Stadium as Pep Guardiola's side won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.
However, Phillips struggled to make much of an impact in Guardiola's starting team on a regular basis in the 2022/23 campaign. The bulk of his 21 appearances came off the bench and his manager said the midfielder returned from the winter World Cup in Qatar overweight.
Phillips put pen to paper on a six-year contract at City when he joined last summer. Despite still having five years left to run on that deal, speculation surrounds where the midfielder will be plying his trade next season.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Eddie Howe's Newcastle are eyeing a potential loan move for City man Phillips. Chelsea's Conor Gallagher is also in their sights for a possible loan switch.
Elsewhere, new Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca is said to be interested in raiding his former club for young defender Callum Doyle. The 19-year-old City academy product spent last season in the Championship out on loan at Coventry City.
The Athletic claims that Leicester are interested in signing the teenager as Maresca continues to rebuild the Foxes' squad this summer. The East Midlands side are preparing for a campaign in English football's second tier for the first time in almost a decade.
The report also claims that Leicester are interested in bringing Doyle to the King Power Stadium on a permanent deal, with the versatile defender valued between £7m and £10m.
