Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has addressed the media ahead of their Premier League opener against Nottingham Forest and provided an injury update.
Jonjo Shelvey will undergo further tests on his hamstring injury and could miss out on Saturday’s visit of Forest. The midfielder sustained the injury in Newcastle’s pre-season defeat to Benfica and has travelled to London for another assessment.
The contest against Steve Cooper’s charges will come too early for Jamal Lewis and Federico Fernandez.
Javier Manquillo missed pre-season due to a groin injury but Howe has confirmed that the Spaniard has returned to training.
“Jonjo Shelvey is in London tonight for another assessment so we are unsure on him,” Howe told the media on Friday ahead of Newcastle’s opener against Forest.
“We’re not too bad apart from him. Jamal Lewis and Federico Fernandez are nearly back. Javier Manquillo is backing training.”
