Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes suffered a fresh ankle injury during the Carabao Cup final and will be assessed ahead of the weekend trip to Man City.
It is the second time this year that the Brazil international has suffered an ankle issue after going over awkwardly in the 1-0 win over Fulham. That night he left St James' Park wearing a protective boot but bounced back quickly to face Crystal Palace after an injury scare.
He walked out of Wembley last night without any precautionary footwear but head coach Eddie Howe admitted he'd came off with a problem against Man United.
Howe said: "Bruno twisted his ankle. I think he did similar – against Fulham – but not too long ago in a match. He was in a bit of pain.
"We don't think it's serious at the moment, but let's wait and see."
Howe tweaked his midfield and took off Sean Longstaff at half-time but explained the withdrawal.
He said: "Sean was just a tactical switch, 2-0 down, cup final, I didn't feel we had a minute to waste to chase the game, so that's why we brought Alex on."
