Joelinton on Tite appearance

Joelinton has reflected on scoring in front of watching Brazil manager Tite at St James’ Park. The uncapped Brazilian fired home in the second half to put Newcastle in a commanding lead against Aston Villa.

Joelinton is not ruling out getting a place in World Cup squad in Qatar but insists his main priority is on Tyneside.

“It meant a lot," Joelinton said. “But it was my first goal of the season. I’ve had to wait for this goal. I’ve been trying my best and I’m very happy to score against Villa. All the fans have supported me and the team and it came in front of my family as well. They were very happy, it was good for me.”

Longstaff silences critics

Sean Longstaff insists he no longer worries about his critics in the St James' Park stands. The academy graduate has become a regular starter under Eddie Howe, and impressed in the Magpies' latest thumping victory over Aston Villa.

He told the club's website : "You get to a certain age and stop worrying what everyone else thinks. Working with people outside of football, and listening to different things and different messages, has helped with that. Some of the things I've heard just from reading and stuff, and it's helped me with that massively."

Young angry at handball call

Ashley Young has moaned he is "not sure how you are supposed to defend anymore" after the Aston Villa captain was penalised for an unintentional handball in the 4-0 defeat on Saturday.

"I'm not sure how you're supposed to defend anymore," he told BBC Sport. "The referee said that's the rule but unless you're putting your arms by your side, it's not the right way to defend so you've got to defend in the way I did."
