Conflicting Maddison reports
Leicester City signing Brazil under-23 international Tete has sparked discussions about James Maddison’s future. ChronicleLive understands two bids were rejected for the midfielder last summer and Newcastle retain an interest.
Reports on the continent suggest the Magpies are prepared to bid £45million - £10million short of their valuation - to tempt the Foxes’ resolve this month. However, local noises indicate no desperation from Newcastle’s half to secure the deal.

Maddison will have just one year left on his contract this summer, forcing Leicester to lower their demands or risk losing him for nothing. The 26-year-old's FA Cup outing against Walsall at the weekend was his first start since before the World Cup break.
Berge interest
Newcastle will rival Liverpool to sign Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge, according to The Mirror. The Norwegian international has attracted interest from Chelsea, Liverpool and AC Milan so far this window, with the Magpies now reportedly in the mix.
The report claims Eddie Howe's side are looking to make an approach worth £15million, a fee considerably less than the £22million the Blades paid for his services back in January 2020.
The 24-year-old is in the final 18 months of his contract with the Championship side and was left out of their entertaining draw with Wrexham as his exit edges closer.
Another winger?
Italian outlet Calciomercato are reporting Newcastle as one of several clubs interested in Ousmane Dembele. The two-footed, pacy winger has a £44million release clause in his Barcelona contract.
Injuries have hampered the Frenchman since his extortionate £115million move from Borussia Dortmund in 2017. Just 35 French caps is not a fair reflection of Dembele’s talents, but he did pick up a World Cup medal five years ago.
However, Anthony Gordon’s arrival means Newcastle are not desperate to sign another winger. Liverpool, despite their abundance of attacking options, are also reportedly interested.
