Newcastle United headlines: Bruno Guimaraes' pride, Dan Ashworth on transfers and latest PIF investment

Your Newcastle United headlines for Wednesday, January 11.

Bruno 'proud' of team-mates

Bruno Guimaraes has spoken of his pride after the Magpies nudged into the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

The Brazil international - alongside his fellow countryman Joelinton - was absolutely immense as he ran the show at St James' Park. And just a year into his Newcastle career he is now looking forward to his first semi-final appearance in a black-and-white shirt with a trip to Wembley potentially on the horizon.

Guimaraes told ChronicleLive: "We're happy with the performance but proud of the result. We competed very well against Leicester. Now it is time to relax for a little while with our families after a nice game. Then we focus on Fulham.

"We never give up and play for our fans. That is what we want to give our supporters. I am just proud of the way we done it. We're in a semi-final and that is a great achievement."

Ashworth transfer stance

Dan Ashworth says the Magpies cannot keep solely buy first-team players as attention turns to the future on Tyneside. Ashworth told former Toon goalkeeper Shay Given: "We've got to give these players a story and a plan of how they've got a possibility to play for this great football club.

"We have to put something together that is attractive to the player and most of the time that is about pathways. It's about 'how can I get in your first team and what are you going to do to help me?'

"If you're talking to a young player in order to achieve their potential and achieve their vision of being a Premier League footballer."

Kane to Newcastle?

Darren Bent believes Newcastle United could be serious contenders to sign Harry Kane. The England international has long been linked with a move away from Spurs in his quest to win some silverware.

Bent told talkSPORT: “Do you know someone who could be in for him? It would be quite funny. Quite fitting, actually...

"Imagine Newcastle go ‘how about breaking Shearer’s record?' "He's on 198 (goals) and he's coming up quickly on that (Shearer's record). He is more than capable of hitting 30 in a season. Newcastle have certainly got the financial capabilities of bringing someone like Harry Kane in."

Howe targets Wembley

Howe made no apologies for setting his sights on the League Cup final next month - and admitted fans had waited far too long for success in the domestic competitions.

He said post-match: "It's too long, too long a wait (for Newcastle to win a trophy). That's no criticism of anyone that's tried, but we're desperate to hurry up the processes and try to get the team successful as quickly as possible.

"That's easier said than done, and we now go to a semi-final. Getting to the semi-final is one thing, but you want to get into the final, you want to experience that."

Latest PIF investment

Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, who own 80 per cent of Newcastle United, look set to add another high-profile addition to their investment portfolio with reports suggesting World Wresting Entertainment (WWE) founder Vince McMahon is ready to sell the company.

According to DAZN, McMahon has agreed to cash in on the global brand, taking it off the stock market and making it a private company again. The news dropped just hours after Stephanie McMahon, Vince's daughter, resigned from the company's board after her father had returned as Chairman of the Board. Many with knowledge of the business claim an announcement is 'imminent'.
