Here are the latest Newcastle United headlines for Saturday, April 30
Howe's 'quality' admission
Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe believes that his side "competed well" against Liverpool but ultimately fell short. After slipping behind to Naby Keita's first half strike, Newcastle weathered the storm in the game as the Reds racked up the chances.
After the game Howe said: "I think Liverpool were probably not at their best but we weren’t either and when you play these games you have to be. We competed well but lacked the quality that could have got us a goal.
"It is difficult to it consistently against Liverpool as they have the quality to produce a counter-attack out of nothing. We were much more aggressive in the second half but did not have any concerted pressure in the game.
"We were not at our best today but we were still in the game right to the end, so there are positives to take. But we set our standards very high and next week we have to do much better."
Bruno's honest verdict
Bruno Guimaraes has offered an honest verdict after Newcastle United's narrow defeat against Liverpool admitting his side "did not deserve" to keep up their winning run at St James' Park. The £33.5million man says that Liverpool were "another level" compared to recent opponents but insists that confidence still remains high in the camp and that United will go into the trip to Manchester City looking to improve.
After the 1-0 loss, Bruno told Lee Ryder: "It was a difficult game, we know Liverpool are on another level. "But we tried our best. In my opinion we expected a lot more. We did not play well with the ball, it was difficult. What I can say to you was that Liverpool were another level.
"We have to work to get to that level. We have to work more and try to play with more of the ball. We have to try to work with the space and get in behind, we didn't do it. We did not deserve the win today."
Klopp United praise
Jurgen Klopp has heaped praise on his side after combatting Newcastle United and the St James' Park crowd following his side's 1-0 win today.
He said: "It’s the most difficult of circumstances. A team in form, a crowd waiting for ages for proper success.
"Coming here with five changes and building pretty much a new setup is really difficult, so the performance was absolutely outstanding. I loved it. We controlled the game in so many ways."
