Newcastle United headlines amid Sela's stadium plan and Bruno Guimaraes interview

Here are your key Newcastle United headlines on Sunday, June 11.

'Bring more life to matchdays' - Sela chief reveals St James' Park plans for Newcastle United

Newcastle United's new shirt sponsor Sela, known for hosting grand events in Saudi Arabia, want to create an incredible matchday experience for fans at St James' Park in the coming years.

The Saudi-based company have signed a 'multi-year' deal with Newcastle, said to be worth £25m-per-season. The kit launch on Friday was a huge success, with Newcastle fans overwhelmingly happy with design for the 2023/24 campaign.

Newcastle have confirmed designs will soon be drawn up for a fanzone situated on Strawberry Place, with Sela set to play a big role in the development. Ibrahim Mohtaseb, Senior Vice President at Sela, has revealed his business wants to work together with the club to vastly improve the entire match day as a whole for supporters.

"We have interesting and exciting ideas and we are working closely with the club to bring more life to matchdays at St James' Park - and to put together a fan zone that fans will enjoy," he said when the deal was announced.

Bruno Guimaraes has the last laugh over those who called his Newcastle United ambitions 'crazy'

Bruno Guimaraes is delighted to have been proved right after following his heart to sign for Newcastle United. It’s easy to forget that only last season Newcastle were involved in a bitter scrap against relegation and Bruno could have been facing teams like Millwall, Huddersfield or Blackburn Rovers, but now he is relishing the prospect of taking on Barcelona or Bayern Munich.

Indeed, Bruno took a chance on the Magpies and did not even ask for a release clause when he signed. Instead, when he was unveiled, he stated the club could be a “global force” one day, and just a campaign later, he finds himself a Champions League player.

Bruno said: “How can he say they can get to the Champions League!? Now in my first full season this is how it is, Champions League and top four.

“Did I expect it this quickly? To be honest, no. What did I think when people say ‘crazy’? I don’t care! I am ambitious. This is something I have been since I remember myself. Have ambition and challenge.

“When I signed, people said that you are crazy to sign for a team who could play in the Championship next season. But here we are and we have the Champions League one year after. I don’t care about the people who said I was crazy!”

How Gabri Veiga and four alternatives fit into Newcastle's blueprint for Champions League evolution

Newcastle United's quest for football dominance took the next step in its development after securing Champions League football next season after a two decade wait. The Toon will welcome back Europe's elite clubs to St. James' Park, a taste of what they hope will be a regular occurrence in the years to come.

Eddie Howe and his side have already been linked with a whole host of European talent as they look to take the next step in their evolution, with James Maddison and Kieran Tierney among just a few big names touted for a move to St. James' Park this summer. While there's the obvious need for signings to improve the squad in the here and now, there's also hope they'll unearth a few gems with long-term success on the agenda.

Manchester City finally ended their wait for a Champions League trophy after years of waiting and a turnover of stars. One name linked with a move to St. James' Park is Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga.

The 21-year-old burst onto the scene this season in La Liga and has been mentioned in the same breath as Newcastle United on a number of occasions. However, with Liverpool, Manchester City and Real Madrid also in the race to sign the young Spaniard, the Toon could well miss out on a bright prospect.
