Newcastle United headlines amid Bruno Guimaraes' trophy dream and Joelinton's World Cup D-Day

Your Newcastle United headlines for Wednesday, November 2.

Bruno's trophy hunt

Bruno Guimaraes has promised Toon fans he will give his all to end the club's trophy drought. You have to go back to 1969 for Newcastle's last trophy, the Fairs Cup, but supporters, staff, players and owners alike are all dreaming of silverware again after an upturn in the club's fortunes following the takeover.

"To be honest, it's a long time to spend without winning a trophy," he said. "I think a lot of fans have never seen Newcastle as champions and I arrived here with that objective: to put Newcastle up there winning trophies. "

I believed in the project from the beginning. The team and fans, especially, deserve it. It's a long, long time. We don't want to put pressure on ourselves but it's also something we have to think about, winning a title.

Joelinton World Cup D-Day

Joelinton will get an enforced rest this weekend at Southampton after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season in the 4-0 rout against Aston Villa. And for now, his dream of pulling on a Brazil shirt at the World Cup in Qatar is still alive. Or at least for another week or so.

The 26-year-old will discover his fate on November 7 when the squad is officially announced. For now, he is focused on whether Newcastle can stay in Champions League contention.

When asked about the prospect of staying in the race for the top four, Joelinton told Chronicle Live: "It will be very difficult - a difficult challenge. We just have to think game by game and try to give our best every week."

Jordan on NUFC 'revolution'

TalkSPORT presenter Simon Jordan believes Newcastle could 'start a revolution' in the footballing world as they continue their excellent start to the season.

The former Crystal Palace owner made the comments off the back of the Magpies cementing their place in the Premier League's top four with a 4-0 thrashing of Aston Villa at the weekend.

"I do think my bet is on shaky grounds right now but I didn't legislate for Liverpool to be as poor as they are. I don't legislate for some of the teams I thought would be competing up the league not doing so well but it's so early in the season.

"They've still got a break to overcome after the World Cup, we don't know what that's going to look like but right now, Newcastle have got more right than they have wrong.

"Right now what they've got is everything going in the right direction, they've got huge momentum and they're becoming an unstoppable force - it'll be interesting to see what the immovable object is, whether it's Manchester City or the top four being difficult to break into. But right now, everything is in the right direction."

Bold NUFC/Spurs claims

Jamie O’Hara believes Newcastle United have a better starting line-up than Tottenham Hotspur aside from Harry Kane and Heung-min Son. Last week, the Magpies schooled Spurs in their own backyard to claim their biggest scalp to date under Eddie Howe.

“They are doing very well, Newcastle,” O’Hara told talkSPORT. “They are flying. We keep saying, is it too early for them to get into the top four? They’re a problem. I mean, look at Liverpool, they're absolutely having one.

"They have a better team than Tottenham. If you look at their XI, apart from Kane and Son, I'd rather have Newcastle's team.”
