Bruno Guimaraes has never once tried to hide his personal hopes and dreams for Newcastle United since arriving on Tyneside back in January. From the first time he spoke to the British media, in his native language of Portuguese, there has been talk of Premier League and Champions League success.
“The main objective is to stay in the Premier League this season,” Guimaraes said back in February. “The owners have been very frank and honest about this. But, in the seasons to come, the objective is to be in the Champions League and eventually to win it.”
Many Newcastle supporters see progress this season as a top-half finish or simply not being embroiled in a relegation battle for most of the campaign. However, the fact of the matter is incoming players are now being sold the promise that this football club will soon be mixing it with Europe's elite.

Guimaraes' dazzling display against Brentford is another reminder he will be on many a transfer shortlist this January and next summer. Real Madrid have already been sniffing round, while Manchester City, Barcelona and a host of other European outfits will be paying close attention to the midfielder's progress.
One big positive for Newcastle is the fact Guimaraes is clearly loving his time in the north east, admitting on Saturday that he is flourishing under Eddie Howe's management. "I never doubted the project, I believe in it. I always wanted to play in the Premier League and I am now just enjoying that," he said after Saturday's 5-1 win.
"The crowd love me and I love them. I want to keep going. I want to be a legend here. Real Madrid is the best team in the world It is nice. But it is just a conversation, it is nothing."
Newcastle United are a club on a journey and the only way is up after a positive start to the season. Howe is getting a tune out of his first-team players and has instilled a winning belief into the dressing room. Big-name additions are being tempted by a move to Tyneside after watching the likes of Bruno, Kieran Trippier and Sven Botman take the plunge.
Not to mention the fact the club are currently situated in the top six of the Premier League. In the short-term, there are no concerns over the club or the man of the moment, Guimaraes.
However, should things unfortunately start to go wrong under Howe's stewardship, Newcastle run the risk of not growing at the same rate as their star midfielder. That, in turn, could present the disastrous scenario of Bruno experiencing his Champions League dreams elsewhere.
