Newcastle United full ins and outs during January transfer window 2022

Newcastle United expected a fairly busy January transfer window and that's exactly what they got.

Given the Magpies' league position and the completion of their £305m Saudi-led takeover back in October, Newcastle were going to try and add reinforcements and they have done just that.

Five players have come through the door, including two on deadline day, and it's safe to say Eddie Howe has bolstered his squad with a number of quality additions as they aim to stay in the Premier League.

Although there may be some frustration that Newcastle didn't end up signing another attacker after a proposed deal to sign Hugo Ekiteke from Reims fell through, Howe will surely be pleased with the business they've managed to complete.

Here are the full ins and outs from a hectic January 2022.

INS

Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid (£12million plus add ons)

Trippier became Newcastle's first addition of the transfer window after he made the move back to English football from Madrid and he has made quite the impact in his time at the club so far.

The 31-year-old, who put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half year deal, won Man of the Match during the Mapgies' crucial 1-0 win at Leeds United last time out and will be an important part of the new-look side moving forward.

Chris Wood from Burnley (£25million)

After Callum Wilson picked up a calf injury against Manchester United last month, Newcastle needed to bring in a new striker and Howe identified Wood as his man, signing a contract until 2024.

Wood made his debut in the 1-1 draw with Watford and will be hoping to add to the three goals he scored during his time at Burnley this season.

Bruno Guimaraes from Lyon (£33million plus add ons)

A talented midfielder, Guimaraes became Newcastle's third signing of the month following his big-money switch from Lyon on Sunday.

The 24-year-old has penned a four-and-a-half year deal on Tyneside and is expected to join up with his new teammates when he returns from international duty with Brazil later this week.

Matt Targett from Aston Villa (loan)

It looked as though Newcastle were making supporters wait for their first addition on deadline day, before Targett made the switch on loan for the remainder of the season from Aston Villa.

It's a position that Howe wanted to strengthen and he has brought in a player with experience and quality, who has made 17 appearances this season and can also operate at wing-back or in a back-three.

Dan Burn from Brighton & Hove Albion (£13million)

The imposing central defender made the late switch from Brighton & Hove Albion for a deal believed to be in the region of £13million.

He will compete with the likes of Jamaal Lascelles, Fabian Schar, Ciaran Clark and Federico Fernandez in the heart of United's defence.

OUTS

Rosaire Longelo to Accrington Stanley (permanent)

Despite making 73 appearances for Newcastle's Under 23s side, Longelo has made the permanent move to Accrington Stanley in search first-team football but hasn't yet made an appearance since joining earlier in the month.

Joe White to Hartlepool (loan)

A promising teenager, White has made the switch to Hartlepool on loan for the rest of the campaign and will be looking to get some valuable experience in League Two with the Pools.

Freddie Woodman to Bournemouth (loan)

Having struggled for regular game time at the Magpies this season, Woodman has decided to join Bournemouth on loan until the end of the season as they push for promotion the Premier League.

Matt Bondswell to Shrewsbury Town (loan)

Teenage defender Bondswell has made the switch to League One side Shrewsbury for the remainder of the season and could make his debut against Fleetwood Town on Saturday.

Elliot Anderson to Bristol Rovers (loan)

Anderson will spend the rest of the season in League Two under the watchful eye of Joey Barton after agreeing a deal with Bristol Rovers and it could be a valuable experience for the highly-rated midfielder.

Matt Longstaff to Mansfield Town (loan)

The midfielder will have his second loan spell of the season, joining up with Nigel Clough's Stags in League Two.

Jeff Hendrick to QPR (loan)

Republic of Ireland midfielder Hendrick made the late switch to Loftus Road.
