Newcastle United fans have expressed their delight after Matt Targett joined the club on loan until the end of the season from Aston Villa.
The 27-year-old has become the Magpies' fourth signing of the transfer window following the permanent additions of Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood and Bruno Guimarães.
A Premier League proven left-back, Targett was an ever-present in the Villa side that finished 11th last season and has been vital ever since they were promoted to the top-flight in 2019.
Targett has made 17 appearances this term, but did recently lose his place at left-back to Lucas Digne, who joined Steven Gerrard's side from Everton earlier this month.
It's a position that Eddie Howe wanted to strengthen and he has brought in a player with experience and quality, who can also operate at wing-back or in a back-three.

Newcastle supporters are pleased with this piece of business, with one fan saying it's a 'good signing, while another believes he adds to what they've currently got at their disposal.
Here is what some had to say on social media.
@agbnufc_: Best natural LB at the club now, good signing.
@jat_0027: Good signing, definitely improves our squad
@9dayrob: Personally think this is great business, solid, proven, experienced. Manquillo is decent cover Lewis has looked decent in drips and drabs but this improves us immensely
@bigdanny185: Great signing! Another to shore up the defence. A new attacker would be great
@ConnorNUFC_: Tears in my eyes we've signed a natural LB. Decent little signing that though, great competition for Lewis and is a position we've looked shaky in for far too long
@thejamieherd: Solid signing this though. Goes straight into the team.
@r_i_mac83: Another good signing from the toon he was doing well with villa until Digne signed
@ScoutNUFC: Personally think that this is an underrated signing. He's a good player and an upgrade on what we have. I do feel for Lewis, who I like a lot, but full backs are so important for Howe and Targett is good offensively. #NUFC
@CheshireMag: Cracking signing, PL experience and comfortable on the ball, we have been crying out for a left back for years. #NUFC
Targett could make his Newcastle debut when they face Everton on Tuesday, February 8.
With his loan set to run until the summer, the Magpies have 17 matches to play as they bid to stay in the top-flight and Targett will be hoping his experience can help to keep the club up.
The former Southampton left-back was an integral part of the Villa side which survived on the final day of the 2019/20 campaign with a 1-1 draw at West Ham United.
