Here's a round-up of your Newcastle United evening headlines on Thursday, 20 January.
Newcastle return for second Lingard bid
Newcastle United have returned with second bid for Jesse Lingard after Manchester United turned down their first offer.
Sky Sports' Dharmesh Sheth said on the Transfer Show: "Newcastle retain an interest in Jesse Lingard, but it is believed that if Manchester United do allow him to leave this month for Newcastle, they would prefer a permanent deal.
"Lingard has entered the last six months of his deal and this is the last chance they have to receive a fee for him.
"Because he's into the last six months of his contract, he will have more options in the summer. Even if United accept an offer from Newcastle, there's every chance he won't accept it and wait until the summer - with no transfer fee - to see which division Newcastle are in.
"United are less reluctant to do business with West Ham simply because they are direct rivals for the top four."
Reims president on why £29m Newcastle United transfer bid for Hugo Ekitike was rejected
Reims president Jean-Pierre Caillot claims Newcastle's 'unrealistic clauses' in their £29million offer for 'wonderkid' Hugo Ekitike.
The Magpies are one of a number of clubs linked with a move for the 19-year-old, but they'll have to improve their offer.
Caillot claims Newcastle held talks with the Ligue 1 club but the offer did not suit the French club.
"It is true that a lot have realised the quality of the player now, but not us. He was formed with us and it does not surprise us," Caillot told Le Quotidien du Sport.
"Newcastle positioned themselves, we discussed it, they made us an offer that did not suit us.
"As we do not really want him to leave, we have fixed the price quite high. They did offer us €35million (£29m) all in, but with a number of bonuses, some of them were quasi-impossible to reach.
"Like for example, winning the Champions League… We want €30m (£25m) flat and €10m (£8.3m) achievable bonuses."
Patrik Schick issues 'wait and see' response amid Newcastle United links
Newcastle United 'target' Patrik Schick claims he's not thinking about 'being transferred somewhere' else amid transfer speculation linking him to St. James' Park.
Speaking to the Independent, Schick said: “Let’s wait and see," when asked about a possible transfer to the Premier League in the future.
Eddie Howe's side are looking to improve the squad with the Magpies second bottom of the Premier League.
The Toon have won just once in all competitions this season and have one of the worst defensive records in the division.
Newcastle are trying to force a deal over the line for Sevilla centre-back Diego Carlos and are exploring other defensive options.
David Batty's Kevin Keegan impression & sarnie orders at hotel
Newcastle United's trip to Elland Road always brings backs memories of Kevin Keegan's famous "I'd love it" rant after the narrow victory against Leeds back in 1996.
That night Keith Gillespie's goal in the 1-0 win resulted in three important points as United closed the gap on Manchester United at the top of the Premier League.
However, that paled into near insignificance after the game as Keegan took aim at Sir Alex Ferguson after teams like Leeds and Nottingham Forest were accused of going easy on the Magpies to aid Man United's title bid.
Firstly here's a reminder of what Keegan said that night to Sky Sports: "No, no... when you do that with footballers, like he said about Leeds, and when you do things like that about a man like Stuart Pearce, I've kept really quiet, but I'll tell you something, he went down in my estimation when he said that.
"We have not resorted to that, but I'll tell you, you can tell him now if you're watching it, we're still fighting for this title, and he's got to go to Middlesbrough and get something, and... and... I'll tell you, honestly, I will love it if we beat them, love it!"
Keegan was then on the end of suggestions that he'd lost the plot and surrendered in Fergie's mind games.
Magpies sent James Tarkowski transfer warning amid Diego Carlos uncertainty
Newcastle United have been warned there is 'no chance' of Burnley approving a January sale for James Tarkowski.
That is the view of pundit and former Clarets goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who insists Sean Dyche's bid for survival depends on the centre-back.
Newcastle are yet to bring in a new defender so far in this window despite attempts to recruit Sven Botman and Diego Carlos.
The Sevilla centre-back appeared to be on course for a St James' Park switch, only for comments on Wednesday night to cast doubt over a deal.
Burnley have already sanctioned the sale of Chris Wood to their relegation rivals, and Tarkowski has been repeatedly linked in recent months.
Keep, sell or loan? Newcastle United fans deliver January transfer verdict after survey
Newcastle United fans have delivered their verdict on who they'd like to keep at the club when the January transfer window closes.
The Magpies are second bottom of the Premier League and are in desperate need of reinforcement to haul them out of their current mess.
There's been plenty of speculation for fans to digest in recent weeks and that'll no doubt continue until the end of the window.
With that in mind, we asked Newcastle fans whether they'd keep, sell or loan out the following players in January, with more than 45,000 fans having their say.
Jamal Lascelles and Ciaran Clark have come under criticism from the Magpies fan base and that's reflected in their voting.
