A round-up of the latest Newcastle United evening headlines on Wednesday, March 29.
Youri Tielemans 'one of the best free agents' but questions posed over Newcastle fit
Newcastle United know they have to box smart in the summer transfer window as they look to take the next step in rebuilding their squad. There are plenty of caveats to consider between now and the end of the campaign, with the Magpies' league finish set to have the final say on potential recruitment this summer.
Eddie Howe has already given a hint that the Dubai break was about more than just a warm weather training camp. The Toon boss admitted he'd been very busy as he gave players some time off, with recruitment one of those factors keeping him occupied.
One name the Toon have been repeatedly linked with since the summer, is Belgian playmaker Youri Tielemans. The midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season and set to leave the Foxes on a free transfer.
Callum Wilson recharged after Dubai break and makes Newcastle goal vow
Callum Wilson says he's recharged and ready to be back among the goals for Newcastle United. Eddie Howe's side jetted off to Dubai on the eve of their win over Nottingham Forest.
The Magpies were in a good place after back-to-back wins reignited their top-four push and they come move back up to third with a win over Manchester United next weekend. Howe gave his players some time off in warmer climates before putting them through their paces ahead of returning to England last week.
Wilson has lifted the lid on the recent training camp and has compared Newcastle's run-in to a mini season. Speaking to the Footballer's Football Podcast, Wilson said: "Recharged the batteries. We went to Dubai with the team for a little training camp."
Mikel Arteta on 'special' Kieran Tierney whose attitude is perfect fit for Eddie Howe and Newcastle
Mikel Arteta has already told Newcastle United supporters just how special left-back Kieran Tierney is, amid links to St. James' Park. Upon arrival at the Emirates, the Arsenal head coach was very vocal about the mental side of the Scottish defender's game and believed he'd bring something special to the club.
Having won an FA Cup under the Spaniard and numerous titles in Scotland, it's clear the left-back has ability to win titles. However, black and white supporters have been quick to point out his poor injury record since making the move from Celtic, but Arteta believes that's part of the game.
"It’s a shame [about his injury] but always it’s part of his development," Arteta told Ian Wright on YouTube back in 2020. "In your career you go through these moments. I challenge him to say ‘Kieran how are you going to react to that?'
Miguel Almiron's fresh Newcastle contract poses questions over Moussa Diaby approach
Miguel Almiron has been the standout performer for Newcastle United in the final third this season. Who would have thought that prior to Eddie Howe's arrival?
It's been a remarkable turn around from the Paraguayan, who signed a new three-and-a-half year deal with the Magpies to extend his stay until the summer of 2026. Almiron has become an influential member of Howe's team, with his attributes a perfect fit for Newcastle's high pressing, counter-attacking style of play.
However, flash back 18 months and it looked bleak for the former Atlanta United frontman. Once a club record signing for the club, he'd struggled to live up to that tag and was hugely inconsistent with his end product.
Newcastle United's 1994 time capsule unearthed as the price of "tomorrow" is remembered
Newcastle United now find themselves to the place they were in the mid-90s, the same place that fans have dreamed of reaching for years with ambition firmly back on the agenda at St James' Park.
The challenges from then and now are certainly different with the financial muscle of Newcastle's rivals now astronomical compared to yesteryear. Just a couple of years after fending off the threat of relegation from Division Three the Magpies became members of the still shiny and new Premier League and were one of the richest.
The fact of the matter is that the current Magpies will need the wealthy backing of Saudi Arabia's PIF in order to compete at the top. As the club looks to maximise ways of making profit now and adhering to FFP, a flick through the history books shows how Newcastle tried to compete financially 29 years ago.
Mourinho's 'special kid' Scott McTominay would be perfect for Howe's Newcastle despite concerns
As myself and Everything Is Black and White podcast host Andrew Musgrove deliberated over Newcastle's array of summer transfer targets on Tuesday, one name brought about more negativity than most. Scott McTominay.
The 26-year-old continues to be linked with a move to St James' Park this summer and was also a target for the Magpies back in January, with Chronicle Live understanding enquiries over his services have been made in the past.
But McTominay's potential arrival on Tyneside hasn't really split opinion at all. There hasn't been a whole load of debate among fans about whether he would be a welcomed addition to Eddie Howe's ranks. The general consensus among Newcastle fans is that it would be a bad deal. But why?
Brazilian feeder club or 'powerful' La Liga link - Exploring Newcastle's multi-club model plan
Newcastle United are still carefully considering their options when it comes to talk of a multi-club model but are believed to have held talks with US-based firm 777 Partners.
The private equity firm has a strong portfolio that includes Serie A side Genoa and links with clubs around the globe such as La Liga's Sevilla, Belgium's Standard Liege and French outfit Red Star FC. At the front desk of Manchester City's Etihad Campus, visitors are greeted by the sight of a metallic crest of each of the Citizens' partners - their multi-club model is now in full swing.
From New York to Mumbai, the Premier League champions have built global links that have helped improve the brand with City proudly describing the list as: "Our clubs." Whether Newcastle take the leap like Man City and unveil a string of partner clubs remains to be seen but one of Europe's best-known sports lawyers David Diaz feels that they could be tempted to go further afield and forge links in South America.
Newcastle United star Alexander Isak provides injury update after Eddie Howe fitness claim
Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak insists he has no injury or fitness concerns after featuring in both of Sweden's recent international fixtures. The forward, 23, started from the outset in the 3-0 defeat to Belgium and the 5-0 win over Azerbaijan in recent days, coming through both matches unscathed.
Newcastle fans held their breath as their club-record signing plied his trade for his country due to his injury issues earlier this season. Isak has started to find his feet in a black and white shirt of late after overcoming multiple thigh problems that saw him on the treatment table during the first-half of the season.
The attacker was asked by Swedish outlet Fotboll Skanalen about his recovery and current fitness on Monday, replying: "There's no problem. The club knows about it [his recovery] and is a little more satisfied this time."
