Callum Wilson accepts ruthless Eddie Howe call that cost him elusive Newcastle United hat-trick
Callum Wilson has revealed he has nothing but respect for Eddie Howe's decision making process at Newcastle United - even if it did potentially cost him his first Toon hat-trick against West Ham.
Wilson's number came up on 64 minutes with the West Ham in defensive disarray and the number 9 clearly in the mood to cause more damage to David Moyes' relegation-haunted Hammers. The striker had been sidelined in recent games with illness but has now scored two in two against Manchester United then West Ham.

With the clash against Brentford starting to come into Howe's mind with an hour on the clock at the London Stadium and that resulted in Wilson, Allan Saint-Maximin and Jacob Murphy all being withdrawn for a breather. The emphasis on the "squad game" at Newcastle this season could not be greater.
Simon Jordan admits he was 'wrong' to underestimate Eddie Howe at Newcastle United
Simon Jordan says Eddie Howe is a 'far better manager' than he envisaged, after Newcastle United laid down a marker in the race for the top four with a 5-1 win over West Ham on Wednesday.
Newcastle strengthened their grip hold on the Champions League places with an emphatic victory, and now boast a three-point lead over fifth-place Tottenham.
The Magpies have also played a game fewer than Spurs, and sit above Manchester United, who they beat 2-0 last weekend, due to their far superior goal difference.
Jacob Murphy hits back at Newcastle 'time wasting' and pinpoints key moment in Manchester United tie
Jacob Murphy has hit back at Manchester United accusations claiming Newcastle United waste time heading into the Magpies' 2-0 win at the weekend. Erik Ten Hag was vocal about the Toon's gamesmanship prior to the game and Murphy says Eddie Howe and his side used that as motivation for a result.
The Red Devils won the battle of wits at Wembley in the Carabao Cup Final back in February, but it was Newcastle who stole a march in the race for Champions League football. The Magpies moved above Manchester United on goal difference, with both sides level on points with Tottenham Hotspur, who have played two games more than their top-four rivals.
Newcastle turned in their best performance of the season to run riot at St. James' Park, with a scoreline that flattered the visitors.
Callum Wilson reveals 'long-term' dream with Newcastle United after West Ham double
Callum Wilson has revealed that he was to stay at Newcastle United for the long-term after scoring twice in last night's 5-1 thrashing of West Ham.
The England international, who has been with the Magpies since September 2020, netted his 29th and 30th goals for the Toon as they ran riot at the London Stadium.
Those goals put him into the top 10 goalscorers for Newcastle in the Premier League era, and while number one Alan Shearer's 148 goals is quite a way off, Andy Cole's 47 goals in second is a much more reasonable target.
Eddie Howe explains Matt Targett's 'unfortunate' situation with Newcastle United
Matt Targett may have to wait even longer for his first Premier League start since September.
The Newcastle United summer signing was excellent in the run-in last term while on loan from Aston Villa with his move quickly made permanent. But this season an unfortunate heel bone injury saw him sidelined with Geordie boy Dan Burn taking his place at left-back.
Howe has sympathy for Targett but hinted he is not close to tweaking his defensive rearguard meaning Burn could start at Brentford this weekend. Speaking to the Press after the 5-1 win over West Ham, Howe hailed the defence that has kept Newcastle in the top three on a night in which he used Targett as a substitute.
