Newcastle United ditch traditional cup final build-up as decision made for Manchester United clash

Newcastle United will treat their Carabao Cup final build-up in a similar way to a normal Premier League game.

The Magpies have resisted the temptation to head south earlier and train at an alternative venue and will set off on the eve of the match in the capital. The club's team bus is set to be emblazoned with new crests for the transfer to Wembley but the squad will not be getting measured for suits and have opted against a visit to the tailors ahead of the big day.

Howe, speaking at the club's media day, said: "We're keen to get the majority of the work done that's not focused on the game (media interviews) so I can focus on the football and the tactical side.

"It will be a normal preparation in terms of our training week. The lads trained really well today. We will make our way to Wembley as we would do the day before the game. "Hopefully we will settle in quickly and get used to the surroundings."

Howe also confirmed that Joe Willock is touch and go for the game but Joelinton is fine after a knock at the weekend. Loris Karius is also back in training after a routine day off, which he chose to spend in Milan with his girlfriend.

Karius has not missed any training but Howe has made it clear that both the German international and former Carlisle stopper Mark Gillespie are vying for the gloves.
