Newcastle United co-owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi watched on with pride from the Milburn Stand as Southampton were swept aside in the second half.
The Ripon financier, who has helped transform the club's fortunes, made a dressing room visit to encourage the squad and tell them how proud she was of them, but like Eddie Howe there are no champagne corks being popped yet. The bubbly will remain on ice for now but preparations for next season can now at least be made with more confidence.
Howe has spoken of two or three different lists of targets at Newcastle and the Champions League income would bolster the coffers by at least £15million simply for getting there. Finishing in third or fourth place could bring in approximately another £20million with the Magpies earning £131.5m for 11th compared to Spurs and Chelsea picking up £150million for third and fourth, a similar windfall is on the way on Tyneside.

Throw the potential earnings from a new sponsorship deal and Newcastle will be in fantastic shape as far as FFP is concerned. United's transfer committee of Howe, head of UK scouting Andy Howe, head of recruitment Steve Nickson and sporting director Dan Ashworth can go into crunch transfer meetings knowing that they can add exciting stars to a squad that is already blossoming.
Alexander Isak puts in "scary" performance despite not finding the net
After we'd all been blown away by Isak's phenomenal assist at Goodison Park in the 4-1 win over Everton, it didn't take him long to show his class again when Southampton came to St James' Park.
First he played in Anthony Gordon in the first half with a perfect pass and turn in the centre circle. Then after the break he made another fine contribution to lay on the equaliser for Wilson.
Isak is as lethal as a provider as he as a goalscorer. That's two assists in two matches.
At 23 and with 10 goals to his name already this term he is looking in fine fettle. The future is exciting for the Sweden international.
As one fan uttered near the Press box: "It's just scary how good Isak is." He wasn't wrong!
Paul Dummett denied win bonus in cruel manner
The defender was all set to be thrown on at the end of the game in stoppage time for his first Premier League appearance of the season. After being summoned and stripped, Newcastle were waiting for the ball to go out of play.
But the game continued and as Anthony Taylor blasted his whistle for one last time, his chance was gone. Dummett at least saw the funny side and Eddie Howe seems set to give him an opportunity soon.
Whether it will be his last efforts for Newcastle remains to be seen. His contract is up soon, but Howe stated last week he has not made any final decisions.
