Newcastle United agree fee for West Ham defender Harrison Ashby after summer transfer interest

Newcastle United have agreed a fee for West Ham United defender Harrison Ashby after rejecting an offer days ago.

Ashby has six months left on his current Hammers deal and was subject to interest from Newcastle last summer, with David Moyes saying back in September that the right-back would have played in the UEFA Europa Conference League tie against Silkeborg had it not been for injury and not a bid from the Magpies.

Eddie Howe's side returned with a bid last week but saw their efforts rebuffed for a player who has played twice for the first-team in Europe this season, starting in the home win over Viborg in August and coming off the bench during November’s win away at FCSB.

Ashby is now set to become the fifth Hammer to leave the club during the January transfer window following the departures of Craig Dawson to Wolves, Pierre Ekwah to Sunderland, Will Greenidge to Colchester United and Darron Randolph's free transfer to Bournemouth.

football.london also understands that there is nothing in West Ham's reported interest in former Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi.
