Newcastle United were beaten 2-0 by Arsenal to leave their Champions League battle still wide open on a disappointing day for the Magpies.
Jacob Murphy struck the post as Newcastle piled on the early pressure and Arsenal also survived a penalty shout after a Jakub Kiwior handball. But Arsenal grabbed the lead when Odegaard was allowed the freedom to srike it past Nick Pope from 25 yards.
Newcastle hit the post again after the break through Alexander Isak when his effort crashed off the post. But Arsenal secured victory after Fabian Schar struck past his own keeper.
How Newcastle players rated:
Nick Pope 8
Walked away with man of the match after a series of fine saves in either half. Kept Newcastle in the game as Arsenal pushed hard in the first half.
Kieran Trippier 5
A difficult day for the full-back as Arsenal pressed hard down his side.
Fabian Schar 6
Battled hard and had his fair share of chances at the other end. Own goal horror in the second half.
Sven Botman 6
This was a test for Botman against one of the Premier League's top sides. Tried to stand Martinelli up for the second goal but to no avail.
Dan Burn 5
Gave it his best shot against Saka and co but it was always going to be tough. Taken off late on after booking.
Bruno Guimaraes 6
Not at his best as Jorginho dominated the midfield battle.
Joelinton 6
Involved in brutal battle with Granit Xhaka. Scrapped hard enough.
Joe Willock 6
Was eager to impress against his old side but lacked clinical touch.
Jacob Murphy 6
His day almost started perfectly when low strike hit the post. A hard-working display and applauded off. Had 29 touches overall.
Alexander Isak 7
At least got some service after the break. Unlucky to hit the post. For some reason partnership with Wilson did not flourish.
Callum Wilson 5
Has been unbelievable of late. But didn't manage a shot and had just 19 touches.
Subs
Miguel Almiron 5 (for Murphy 63)
No real impact.
Anthony Gordon (for Willock 78)
Allan Saint-Maximin (for Wilson 78)
Matt Targett (for Burn 81)
