Newcastle United will face a fight to get Anthony Gordon from Everton in the January window - with Frank Lampard telling his board he wants to hold on to the forward this month.
The Toffees resisted approaches from Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur in the summer and while Gordon was benched in the 2-1 defeat to Southampton, Lampard will again dig his heels in to keep the 21-year-old. Chronicle Live reported Newcastle's initial interest last summer and the link has resurfaced once again for the young Scouser.

Gordon, who can play wide on the left or through the middle fits the bill for United and Eddie Howe stated he was not looking for "another Chris (Wood)" in terms of an old fashioned target man when discussing potential replacements.
A price tag of £60million was slapped on Gordon's shoulders in the summer with the player himself saying in September: "Personally, I don’t think any player is worth that amount of money but I’m also not going to talk myself down."
Flamengo also resisting Newcastle and Bayer Leverkusen
The Brazilian club have baulked at suggestions of a £14million offer for Matheus Franca, still just 18. Newcastle missed out on his countryman Andrey Santos to Chelsea earlier in the window.
Bayer Leverkusen - who have ex-Liverpool star Xabi Alonso as boss - are also keen but don't value the teenager higher than £10million. In any case, Flamengo chiefs are demanding double that price.
Karl Darlow move held up by League Cup semi-finals
Newcastle don't want to let Darlow out on loan until the semi-finals are over and done with in the League Cup. The former Nottingham Forest star is set to leave this month but Martin Dubravka's situation has complicated matters.
With Dubravka cup-tied, Darlow is needed for bench duty at Southampton. Howe said yesterday: "I think we have a slightly unique position with the Carabao Cup. Martin’s cup-tied, so we want to make sure we have enough strength for that competition while also giving players that we don’t feel will play to maybe go and play elsewhere."
