Newcastle United are looking to continue their backroom revamp and bolster their recruitment ranks with two positional analysts as the summer transfer window looms. The desired candidates will be expected to hit the ground running and 'identify' potential transfer targets for both the academy and the first-team squad.
The Magpies are preparing for arguably their toughest window yet under the new owners as Eddie Howe targets 'elite' recruits ahead of a return to the Champions League. Quality and quantity is on the agenda, with the head coach outlining the need to have two starting elevens to cope with the demand of competing on four fronts.
Jamie Reuben outlined the financial challenges currently facing Newcastle in their efforts to disrupt and now maintain their position among the so-called 'Big Six'. Financial Fair Play and now UEFA's own sustainability regulations prevent the owners from spending as they see fit in the transfer market, with the onus placed on developing the club's infrastructure away from the playing squad.
In his appearance on the Business of Sport podcast, the Magpies co-owner stressed their need to make each and every pound they spend 'go farther' than the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City. Reuben also warned spiralling transfer costs show no sign of slowing down anytime soon, meaning Newcastle will need to commit to smart strategy to find value for money.

It is with this goal in mind that the club are keen to bring in two 'talented' positional analysts to work closely with head of technical scouting Andy Howe, and lead video analyst Ciaran Hughes who has recently arrived from City. The prospective hires will produce video analysis on targets earmarked to bolster Howe's squad along with 'emerging' talent.
Yankuba Minteh's expected signing is a reminder of Newcastle's commitment to scouring markets to bring in rising stars. Garang Kuol was already signed before making his World Cup debut as a teenager, while the likes of Charlie McArthur, Alex Murphy, and Jude Smith were brought in to the academy last summer.
The two hires will join recent recruits in the same role in the form of former Middlesbrough scout Graeme Tiffin, and Josh Appleyard from Norwich City. The position analysts will focus on specific positions within a designated geographical area rather than players in general, a model implemented at Brighton under sporting director Dan Ashworth.
