Newcastle transfer rumours with Raphinha £49m claim and Magpies enter 'race' for Mohammed Salisu

Here is your latest 4am Newcastle United transfer digest.

Raphinha claim

According to El Desmarque, Newcastle United are plotting a £49million move for former Leeds United winger Raphinha. The report claims the Magpies believe they may be able to tempt the winger back to the Premier League, despite sealing his dream move to Barcelona last summer.

Barcelona's dire financial situation has seen them told they need to sell players before any further additions. It's unclear whether Barcelona are willing to sell the Brazilian at this stage, who only arrived from Leeds for a reported fee of £55million - £49million of which was reported to be upfront.

Salisu 'race'

The Magpies and Tottenham are in a 'race' to sign Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu, according to Football Insider. The Ghanaian international will enter the final year of his contract this summer, and talks over a new deal for the 23-year-old are yet to take place.

Salisu has made 27 appearances in all competitions this season, and has become a key player at St Mary's Stadium since arriving from Real Valladolid for a fee in the region of £11 million in 2020. The report claims Newcastle are determined to land a long-term partner for Sven Botman in the heart of defence this summer, although the Saints centre-back is set to be a man in demand.
