Here is your latest 4am Newcastle United transfer digest.
Veiga 'talks'
Spanish outlet Marca claimed a month ago that the Magpies were 'very close' to signing Gabri Veiga following a breakout season. The young midfielder has a release clause in the region of £35 million, and is expected to move on this summer after his brace in the final-day home win over Barcelona secured their La Liga status.
That clearly proved to be premature, but rumours over a Premier League switch continue to circulate around the 21-year-old. Chelsea and Liverpool are among those also credited with an interest, after he netted 11 league goals while registering four assists last term.
Now, 90min claim Newcastle are among the clubs to have held 'talks' over a deal for Veiga with agent Pini Zahavi. Celta Vigo are said to remain firm on their stance that any interested bidders will have to match the release clause in order to land the midfielder in this window.

Nelson enquiry
Reiss Nelson is now technically a free agent, with his contract at Arsenal expiring on June 30. However, the 23-year-old is said to be on the brink of agreeing a new four-year contract with the Premier League runners-up, with the Gunners said to hold an option for an extra season.
However, this has seemingly not deterred Newcastle from making an enquiry for the winger. Football Transfers claim the Magpies have 'touched base' with Nelson's representatives about the prospect of following former team-mate Joe Willock up to Tyneside.
The report outlines that Eddie Howe is keen on a 'versatile attacker' to strengthen his squad, with a priority placed on those who already have Premier League experience. Nelson was largely restricted to cameo appearances last season, but still contributed three goals and two assists in 11 Premier League appearances.
