Newcastle transfer news: Aaron Ramsey makes dramatic U-turn over potential move

The hunt for a new midfielder in the January transfer window continues for Newcastle as Eddie Howe remains desperate for new additions to aid his side in their bid to beat the drop.

And the Magpies have reportedly received a huge boost in their pursuit of Wales international Aaron Ramsey, who had initially turned down an offer to join the club.

Only last week was it revealed that Ramsey had rejected offers from a number of Premier League clubs in the hope of joining Crystal Palace, but after refusing to give up on the situation, the Magpies could be about to capture their man.

Juventus are keen to offload the 31-year-old after a hit and miss tenure in Turin, and a Premier League return has seemed inevitable.

And according to the Telegraph, Ramsey and his representatives have had a change of heart over a move to the north east to give Howe a huge boost in his search for a new midfielder.

The former Arsenal man moved to Juventus in July 2019 and after 65 appearances in his first two seasons, he has been restricted to just five more outings this term.

The Old Lady are now keen to offload Ramsey and his whopping £400,000-per-week wages this month, and Newcastle certainly have the finances to take on that burden.

Last week, the Daily Mail confirmed that Crystal Palace had pulled out of their pursuit to sign the Welsh international, with the report also mentioning Ramsey’s rejection of a Newcastle move.

But the Magpies haven’t given up and, after a fresh approach, Ramsey has had a change of heart and is now interested in moving to the north of England.

Howe has expressed his desire at capturing a new midfielder this month as he looks to bolster his ranks heading into the remainder of the season, and the Juventus man would be a perfect addition.

However, a move could depend on whether or not the Magpies are successful with a loan move for Manchester United ’s Jesse Lingard, which would cost them far less money, too.

Newcastle remain hopeful of a move for the Red Devils midfielder, although United aren’t keen on letting him leave Old Trafford this month.

Should that move fail to materialise, then one for Ramsey could certainly be imminent to ensure there will be a midfielder walking through the front doors of St. James’ Park by the end of the month.

However, if the Magpies do capture Lingard, it is unsure as to whether they would then opt for Ramsey as well.

But with their current on-pitch situation, where they remain in the relegation zone, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them move for both in order to give themselves every fighting chance to stay up this season.

And with their finances at hand, it wouldn’t exactly be a huge problem for them to have both players on their books should they want them.

Either way, Ramsey has had a change of heart and should Newcastle want him, they have a great chance to get him.
