Newcastle training ground development ramps up with new additions that look a 'lot better'

Kieran Trippier has admitted that Newcastle United's training ground is looking a 'lot better now' as the players make the most of the improved facility.

Newcastle still plan to build a new state of the art training ground in the long-term, but the hierarchy were keen to get the most out of the club's current base at Benton before then. The club's most recent set of accounts revealed £2.7m had been set aside for the modernisation work up to June last year after those at the top recognised the training ground fell 'significantly below the Premier League and perhaps even Championship standards'.

A host of new features have been added to the main building, including expanded dressing rooms, a new lounge area for the players, a revamped canteen and even a head tennis court, and the group will also have access to hydrotherapy and plunge pools for recovery sessions when the work is completed. Eddie Howe has had an input on the plans in a bid to create an environment that flows better so, for example, new doctor and physio rooms will be located next to the players' area and the coaches' offices.

As well as these changes inside, the façade of the complex has also changed dramatically with the tired cream paint replaced by new black panelling and huge glass windows bringing more natural light into the canteen. No wonder Sky Sports interviewer Emma Saunders remarked to Kieran Trippier that the facility had a 'lick of paint' since he first joined the club.

"It certainly has," Trippier said. "It's looking a lot better now. New restaurant, new gym, new additions to the training ground.

"It also helps with the Teqball machines. The lads are out early for training. You see the manager out as well. It's good fun before training."
