Newcastle target Nottingham Forest star as Atletico Madrid make transfer stance clear

Nottingham Forest star Renan Lodi is reportedly on Newcastle United's list of potential targets ahead of the summer.

The Atletico Madrid loanee is expected to leave Los Colchoneros at the end of the season with reports in Spain claiming the club will cash in. Lodi initially joined Atletico in 2019 and joined the Reds in the summer, becoming a key player in Steve Cooper's squad.

Forest are said to hold the option to buy Lodi for €30million (around £26m) once his loan ends. The 24-year-old left-back has also reportedly been on Everton's radar, although their interest will depend on whether they can survive the drop.

According to 90min, the Magpies are looking at their options ahead of the summer, with the left-back area understood to be a priority for head coach Eddie Howe, with Arsenal's Kiernan Tierney and Lodi among the potential candidates.

Cooper, who is a fan of the Brazilian, said previously: "Renan has looked excellent. I don’t want to give him the kiss of death, but he’s in really good form.

"He’s one of our own now and we love him. Time is the best ingredient when it comes to improvement."
